Grasses for Conservation Plantings
Building construction, solid waste disposal, strip mining, road building, and construction of dams, waterways, and diversion terraces are some of the activities that can cause land to be barren or inadequately covered by vegetation. These disturbed lands can erode unless protected. Typically, the first line of defence against erosion is to quickly stabilize the site with a well-rooted and persistent vegetative cover. The Erosion Control & Conservation Plantings on Noncropland publication listed on this page contains suggestions for establishing a vegetative cover to control soil erosion and runoff from lands wholly or partially denuded of cover.
